Eastern Cape Mother Charged in Alleged Conspiracy to Murder Her Son for Insurance Payout

A mother from Gelvandale, Gqeberha, is facing serious charges, accused of orchestrating the murder of her 22-year-old son, Moegamat Thaafir Dollie.

Shayhieda Dollie, 49, appeared in the New Brighton Magistrates Court on Friday, 8 November, where she was charged with murder and conspiracy to commit murder. The alleged premeditated murder took place on 28 October 2024.

According to Luxolo Tyali, spokesperson for the Eastern Cape division of the National Prosecuting Authority, Shayhieda Dollie had been struggling with her son’s drug addiction and disruptive behavior.

Seeking a “permanent solution,” she reportedly consulted with individuals who suggested she take drastic action.

Dollie allegedly collaborated with two men, known as “Shaun” and “Oompie,” to hire hitmen from Johannesburg.

Reports suggest that Dollie initially agreed to pay R80,000 for the act, but the fee increased to R380,000 due to delays.

She allegedly lured her son by arranging a fake job interview. When he left with the hired individuals, it led to his tragic death.

The prosecution believes the motive behind the crime was to claim a R2 million life insurance policy, intended to cover the payment for the hitmen.

The state has opposed bail, and the case has been postponed to 15 November 2024 for further investigations, including profile verification.
