Three people have died and 12 others were injured after a minibus taxi crashed into a ditch on the N12 near Daveyton early this morning.
The incident occurred at around 06:19, with initial reports suggesting the taxi may have been shot at in a suspected taxi violence incident. This has not yet been confirmed.
Emergency services responded to the scene, where three victims were declared dead.
Twelve passengers were injured, with eight sustaining moderate injuries and four in serious condition. All were transported to hospital for treatment.
Both the South African Police Service and the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Motorists have been advised to avoid the area, while the City has extended condolences to the families of the victims.
