UPDATE: Search Ends in Komatipoort After Remains Found

The SAPS in Mpumalanga has officially ended the search operation in Komatipoort following the discovery of human remains believed to be those of the second missing SANDF member.
Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi confirmed that the search concluded on 31 December 2025. DNA tests will now be conducted to confirm the identity of the remains.
The extensive operation involved the SAPS Search and Rescue Team, including the Mpumalanga SAPS Diving Unit. Support was also provided by SANPARKS, the SANDF, Emergency Medical Services, and the SAPS Air Wing, which deployed helicopters during the search.
Police also acknowledged the role of a community member who first reported the incident on 26 December 2025, which led to the launch of the search.
Authorities have urged members of the public to stay away from swollen rivers and dams during the rainy season.
Police warned that swimming, fishing, or attempting to cross flooded bridges can be extremely dangerous and may result in loss of life.
