KZN Health Bus Catches Fire – All 52 Patients Evacuated Safely

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health has confirmed that all 52 patients traveling in a planned patient transport bus were safely evacuated after the bus caught fire near Cedara on Monday, 4 November.
The bus, from the uThukela Emergency Medical Rescue base, was en route when the incident occurred.
KZN Health spokesperson Nathi Oliphant stated that the patients were promptly evacuated and then transported to Grey’s Hospital in the uMgungundlovu District using three 22-seater buses.

Additional transport was provided by the department, with EMS personnel ensuring all patients safely returned to their destinations in Estcourt, Ladysmith, Dundee, and Vryheid by midnight.
An internal investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire. Oliphant reassured the public that this was an isolated incident and emphasized that their EMS PPT buses are safe and operated by well-trained personnel.
