Residents Warned Not to Drink Tap Water in Parts of Johannesburg

Residents in parts of Johannesburg have been warned not to drink tap water after reports of a strong smell coming from their taps.
Johannesburg Water issued the alert after several people in areas around Albertina Sisulu Road, 10th Street and nearby avenues said their water smelled unusual and possibly contaminated.
As a precaution, the water supply to the affected streets has been isolated while samples are sent for laboratory testing to check water quality. Alternative water is being supplied to residents by roaming tankers until results are known and the issue is resolved.
Johannesburg Water says the pipelines will be flushed and further updates will be given once test results are available.
Authorities have advised residents not to consume the tap water until further notice.
