Minnie Dlamini Denies Stealing Money After SIU Settlement

South African media personality Minnie Dlamini has strongly denied stealing any money after reaching a settlement with the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) over irregular National Lotteries Commission (NLC) funds.

The SIU said Dlamini agreed to repay R50,000 she received in 2016 from the Mshandukani Foundation, which was funded by the NLC for a roadshow tied to the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. The unit said the funds were distributed without lawful justification and not used for their intended purpose.

In a public statement, Dlamini said she was booked for a professional engagement that was later cancelled and was paid a standard industry fee.

She said she had no knowledge of the source of the funds at the time and did not involve herself in unlawful activities. Dlamini called the SIU’s public statements “irresponsible, unfair and deeply damaging.”

She added that she repaid the money not because she did anything wrong, but to avoid prolonged reputational harm.

Minnie Dlamini said she “did not steal any money” and rejected narratives suggesting otherwise.
