Rapper Kwesta weighed in on X after former Johannesburg mayor Herman Mashaba made comments following the death of DJ Warras (Warrick Stock), a radio and TV presenter, club DJ, and businessman, who was shot and killed in the Johannesburg CBD on 16 December 2025.
Mashaba shared a tribute linking Warras’ death to his Inner City Rejuvenation Plan, writing that the late DJ’s death “will not be in vain.”
Kwesta responded, pushing back against Mashaba’s framing and highlighting the ongoing loss of lives, expressing frustration at the lack of accountability and effectiveness in addressing public safety concerns.
The exchange sparked widespread discussion on X, with users debating politicians’ roles, trust in leadership, and the responsibilities of public figures in times of tragedy.
Some defended Mashaba’s tribute, noting his previous work as mayor, while others sided with Kwesta, calling for stronger action to protect citizens.
DJ Warras’ murder has prompted a police manhunt, as preliminary reports suggest he may have been targeted while managing a security company recovering a hijacked building.
