Nearly 2,500 People Affected by Dunoon Fire in Cape Town

Almost 2,500 people have been affected by a large fire that tore through the Dunoon informal settlement in Cape Town. City officials say the figure is based on early assessments and may rise as registration of affected residents continues.
The blaze destroyed 589 structures, leaving many families displaced and without shelter. Disaster management teams are clearing debris, and efforts are underway to restore damaged infrastructure such as water and sanitation services.
City officials appealed for donations of non-perishable food, hygiene items, baby clothes, formula, blankets and bedding to help those impacted by the fire.
Drop-off points have been set up at several fire stations for 24-hour public contributions.
The fire is one of several that have hit the Western Cape during the recent hot, windy fire season, adding pressure on emergency services and city resources.
