Video Emerges Showing Uber Driver’s Murder and His Car Being Set Alight

An Uber driver was shot and killed outside Maponya Mall in Soweto on Thursday night before his vehicle was set alight by unknown suspects.
According to CCTV footage circulating online, the attack happened at night and in the video a second vehicle was also targeted and torched.
The motive for the killings is still unclear, but tensions between e-hailing service operators and local taxi associations have been mounting in recent months.

In response to the violence, members of the Soweto community have closed Maponya Mall.

Police have opened a case of murder and malicious damage to property. No arrests have been made at this stage.
