How Technology Is Helping Stop Undocumented Migrants at Beitbridge

Advanced technology is helping the Border Management Authority (BMA) intercept undocumented migrants trying to enter South Africa through the bush near the Beitbridge border with Zimbabwe.
Officers used drones and real-time monitoring systems to detect movement in areas that are hard to patrol on foot. This allowed them to spot and intercept groups of people attempting to cross the border away from official checkpoints before they could enter South African territory.
On one operation, BMA surveillance teams identified a group of undocumented migrants crossing through dense bush and arrested 25 Zimbabwean nationals who were trying to enter the country illegally.
Two men accused of helping others cross were also detained by authorities.
BMA officials say the use of technology makes it easier to monitor remote parts of the border and respond more quickly to illegal crossings.
The Authority continues to work with the South African Police Service and SANDF to improve border security and enforce immigration laws.
