Bafana Bafana Secure Vital Opening AFCON Win Against Angola

South Africa’s Bafana Bafana began their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Angola at Marrakesh Stadium in Morocco on Monday night.
Oswin Appollis opened the scoring in the 21st minute before Angola levelled early in the second half. Lyle Foster then scored the winner in the 79th minute to secure all three points for South Africa.
The victory gives Bafana much-needed momentum in Group B, where they will next face former champions Egypt on Boxing Day, before taking on Zimbabwe.
Coach Hugo Broos and captain Ronwen Williams had stressed the importance of winning the opening match, and the team delivered despite tough opposition and chilly conditions in Marrakesh.
Bafana’s win also continues their positive run after a strong showing at the last AFCON, where they finished third, and gives fans hope as the tournament progresses.
