KZN Police Officers Suspended for Using Patrol Vehicle to Take Learner to Matric Dance

Two KwaZulu-Natal police officers have been temporarily suspended after a viral video showed them using a marked patrol vehicle to escort a learner to a matric dance.
The incident took place in Estcourt, and according to SAPS Provincial Commissioner, Lt. Gen. Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, the officers acted without authorization and misused state resources.
Mkhwanazi confirmed that both officers have been removed from active duty while an internal investigation is underway. They may also face disciplinary action and be held financially liable for the fuel, time, and running costs involved.

The video sparked public outrage on social media, with many questioning how official police resources could be diverted for personal use.
The South African Police Service has reiterated its commitment to accountability and discipline, stating that such actions tarnish the image of the police force.
