REPORT: Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi Redirects Crowdfunding to Support Children of Fallen Police Officers

KwaZulu-Natal provincial commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi is set to redirect a recent crowdfunding campaign into a cause with real impact: supporting the educational needs of children whose parents lost their lives in the line of duty.

The campaign, originally launched on X by popular user Chris Excel to gift Mkhwanazi two cows as a token of appreciation, quickly gained momentum, raising nearly R50 000.

Demonstrating his commitment to public service, Mkhwanazi offered to deposit the funds into the South African Police Service Education Trust (SAPSET) account, pending approval from the Office of the National Commissioner.

Since its establishment in 2010, SAPSET has assisted over 1,000 children with school and university fees. By redirecting the funds, the crowdfunding initiative will now help provide meaningful support to bereaved children, turning a gesture of personal appreciation into an act of communal good.

Lieutenant General Mkhwanazi expressed his gratitude to all contributors, highlighting the generosity of the public and their vital role in supporting police officers and their families.
