Five Suspects Killed in Cash-in-Transit Shootout at Crown Mines

Five suspects were fatally shot during a shootout with police at Crown Mines, Johannesburg, on 24 July 2025.
The suspects, allegedly planning a cash-in-transit heist, opened fire after being pursued by police from the M1/M2 highway split.

Their vehicle crashed into a fence during the chase. Inside, police found an AK-47, a pistol, and explosives.
Investigations link the same vehicle to a 14 July murder and cash-in-transit robbery in Kingsley, KZN.
Gauteng Police Commissioner Lt Gen Tommy Mthombeni praised the coordinated effort by SAPS units, provincial intelligence, and private security.
