Life Sentence for Limpopo Woman Who Orchestrated Father’s Murder

The Polokwane High Court has sentenced 28-year-old Mologadi Magdeline Mehlape to life imprisonment for the brutal murder of her father, Dr Malekutu Johannes Mehlape, a Limpopo education department official.
She was also sentenced to 15 years for robbery, with the sentences to run concurrently.
Mehlape pleaded guilty to murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances.
The court heard she plotted the killing based on claims by a traditional healer that her father used “muti” to cause her mother’s death.
When rituals failed, she conspired with relatives to hire a hitman for R200,000.
On December 28, 2023, Mehlape gave the killers access to her father’s Mankweng home, where he was shot multiple times in his sleep and robbed.
Despite apologizing in court, the prosecution argued her plea stemmed from overwhelming evidence, not remorse. The NPA hailed the outcome as a strong message against violent crimes.
The trials of four co-accused have been separated and postponed to June 20.
