Afrotainment’s New Artist Captain Accused of Copying late Mampintsha’s Style

Is He the New Mampintsha or Just a Copycat?

There’s serious tension brewing in Durban’s music scene after Afrotainment’s newest artist, Captain whose real name is Siphamandla Mathebula was accused of imitating the late Big Nuz star Mampintsha.

Captain made his musical debut with the single Cinderella featuring Danger, but it’s not just the music grabbing attention.

Many fans and industry insiders say his flow, dance moves, and fashion sense closely resemble that of Mampintsha, the late Gqom icon.

The backlash online has been fierce. Viral clips show Babes Wodumo, Mampintsha’s widow, visibly emotional while reacting to Captain’s rise.

“Captain used to be Mampintsha’s driver. He clearly studied everything from his style to his stage presence,” a source alleged.

“People aren’t just uncomfortable they’re angry. Not just Babes Wodumo, but others in the industry too.”

Another insider revealed that the Cinderella collaboration with Danger was initially meant to reignite Big Nuz’s comeback, not launch a solo act.

“That track was supposed to be a stepping stone for a Big Nuz reunion. Now that plan is up in flames. Captain may have aimed for a spot on the next Big Nuz album sleeve—but this controversy might be the end of the road.”

With emotions high and allegations of copying gaining momentum, Captain’s future in the Gqom scene hangs in the balance.
