Mokete Shaun Mogaila, a 29-year-old footballer from Sekhukhune United, has been granted R20,000 bail following his appearance in Thembisa Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
He faces serious charges stemming from a tragic incident earlier this week that claimed the life of nine-year-old Gomolemo Mavimbela.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority, Mogaila’s vehicle allegedly crossed into oncoming traffic on Andrew Mapheto Road, colliding with a car carrying Mavimbela, her mother, and her 13-year-old brother. While Mavimbela tragically lost her life, her mother and brother suffered serious injuries.
Reports indicate that authorities discovered bottles of alcohol and suspected drugs inside Mogaila’s vehicle.
Although he initially fled the scene, Mogaila later turned himself in to the police.
He now faces charges of reckless driving, fleeing the scene, and culpable homicide.
Mogaila is scheduled to return to court on February 4 as investigations into the incident continue.
