9-Year-Old Gomolemo Mavimbela Laid To Rest After Tragic Crash Involving Soccer Star Shaune Mogaila

Mother is still in ICU and has still not been told about her daughter’s death

A small white coffin lay before the congregation at Faith Mission Church in Thembisa on Saturday, as nine-year-old Gomolemo Mavimbela was laid to rest after a tragic accident involving Sekhukhune United soccer player Shaune Mogaila.

Family and friends gathered to mourn the young girl’s life, which was cut short in a car crash two weeks ago.

Family members reported that Gomolemo’s mother remains in stable condition at Zamokuhle Private Hospital, and a 13-year-old neighbor who was also injured in the accident is recovering.

During the funeral, the pastor shared how Gomolemo had a bright future, saying, “Her life was tragically cut short by someone who was drunk. We want justice and hope the truth comes forward.”

Mogaila, who is accused of culpable homicide, reckless driving, and fleeing the scene, appeared in Tembisa Magistrate’s Court, where he was granted R20,000 bail.

The charges stem from his alleged involvement in the accident, where his BMW M2 struck Gomolemo, her mother, and the neighbor’s child.
