Bonang Matheba’s House of BNG Faces Major Price Drop and Business Challenges

Reports have emerged that Bonang Matheba’s House of BNG beverage range has faced a significant price cut, surprising many South Africans.
The luxury drink, once priced at R399, is now selling for just R99 in a Woolworths store, according to a post by celebrity blogger Musa Khawula.
The discount has raised eyebrows, especially as Bonang has not yet responded to the news.

An industry insider suggested that this situation isn’t unique to Bonang’s brand.
Champagne importer @monsieurponto noted that many alcohol brands are being pulled from shelves due to poor performance.
It’s Not only her, a lot of alcohol brands are being uplifted (meaning removed from shelves for none performance).

He added that alcohol sales, especially for spirits and wines, have dropped dramatically, with consumers opting for cheaper options like beer and ciders.

Bonang isn’t the only South African celebrity facing business struggles. Lekau Sehoana’s Drip Footwear was recently ordered into liquidation, leading to store closures and job losses across the country.

Similarly, Boity Thulo’s perfume, Pink Sapphire Eau de parfum, and her haircare range Halo Heritage, both launched in 2020, have also struggled in the market.
Boity’s fragrance is being removed from shelves.

Despite the challenges, Boity encouraged perseverance, reminding her followers that setbacks are part of the journey.
Other celebrities, such as DJ Zinhle, Minnie Dlamini, and Maps Maponyane, have also faced similar hardships.
